Day 11 - Thursday, July 27

Had a good night's sleep in Kingsport and Andy even made me soft boiled eggs and toast. Preston and Clayton helped me load up the car.

Was on the road by 7:30am heading down the mountain. Was in 3 states today -- have to go through Virginia from Tennessee to get back to HP.

Saw a sign for a national park and wanted to stop, but didn't. So, at the next park sign, I pulled off. Went to Hungry Mother State Park. Got there right when it opened - was the only car in the lot. Turns out, this place was a childhood favorite of my mom's.  Buddy and I walked and walked and walked.  I thought the below sign indicated wi-fi -- it actually is the ampitheatre sign.

After this side adventure, I continued on the highway and saw a sign for the town of Woodlawn, where my father grew up and where my grandparents and great aunts and uncles on the Robinson side lived forever. The brick house w/ the garage was my grandparents. Woman whose sister lives there now let me inside to have a look.  The white house was "Ol' Doc Robinson"'s office, the other brick house belonged to my great aunt Anna (attached to it was her PO); her husband owned the store in the PO building; the 2 story white house belonged to my other great aunt Judy and her husband Crater (the house originally belonged to my great grandfather Samuel Garland Robinson - I inherited his father's Cival War rifle and my father lived there after his mother died when he was 7 yrs old). The last pic below is of my great grandfather's General Store from the early 1900s. My great aunt Daisy and grandfather took it over and converted it into an antique store. My mom was shopping there in the early 1960s and Daisy and grandpa played matchmaker and introduced her to my dad.

After this little adventure, I stopped again to drive up to Hanging Rock. The 1st pic is of the mountain I drove up. It was much higher up than I realized. The middle 2 are from the top of the mountain.  You can't really tell, but trust me, I am really, really high up on a huge mountain:
