Friends of Al’s parents, the Rekdals, came to town from Seattle this week. They and the Goldens met in Turkey in the ‘60s and have remained good friends. I searched for a Turkish restaurant in the neighborhood of their hotel. We picked up the in-laws and met them on the east side. Had a lovely dinner. I must have a very diverse look about me, b/d I get mistaken for so many ethnicities – they thought I was the Turk of the bunch.  Then Al’s dad spoke Turkish and they realized who was more familiar w/ the culture.  Invited myself to join the Rekdals at the Asia Society Museum on Friday…

Tuesday night had an odd dream. It was a post-apocalyptic world and we were rebuilding society. I started having an asthma attack and Al brought me my inhaler. I told him that that was the very last inhaler in the world and would have to save it. Turns out, I was having an asthma attack in my sleep which was incorporated into my dream. Went to dr. on Wednesday – did the nebulizer thing and got Rx for prednisone and z-pack. Great bead-side manner. Told me I could die in my sleep. What doctor says that??

Had 4th interview w/ company I’d really like to work for. Have 2 other options, one on Wall Street, one in advertising. Not going to mention names so not to jinx. Thought it went well.

Joined the Rekdals on Friday at the Asia Society – great exhibit. Beijing-born performance artist. Watched a group of video of his art, then stills of the art. He left performance to work on carving and sculpture – took antique wooden doors, carved them, then did b&w photos over the carvings. Quite fascinating.

Do you see the Beagle?? Oh, and this guy laid flat naked on a bed of ice.... but the dogs are really cute...

This one really creeped me out -- he lathered himself in fish oil and honey and placed himself in the filthiest public toilets in China ... to attract flies. the pain of his art.. also, kind of cool reflection of other art across the wall...

this one was based on an old Buddhist proverb -- to add a meter to a mountain.

the artist and his son -- wanted to increase the water level by asking immigrant workers to strip and jump in the pond...
